Intelsat
Enterprise-grade Advantage
“Follow a day in the life of a really-real-fake person as they stay connected throughout a complex journey where traditional internet connectivity is NOT available.”
Another day, another ebook. (Or else…)
Lengthy assets like ebooks can easily get monotonous. So when Intelsat’s mobility team came asking for one, we obviously had to flip it on its head. Drawing inspiration from the storytelling like of Give Yourself Goosebumps, we pitched a revitalized “ebook,” taking what could’ve been a boring page-turner and turning it into an exciting page-flipper. (Get it? Flip to page 22!)
Let’s actually take it back a step.
Intelsat’s mobility messaging was in the middle of an overhaul. They needed a new asset to help their audiences understand exactly why their communications solutions are the best in the business—and why, you may wonder? Because of the enterprise-grade advantage. From Intelsat’s global network of space and ground infrastructure to its SOC 3 accreditation, 99.999% availability, and 24/7 support, dedicated benefits like these are a through line for their mobile solutions across land, sea, and air. It was high time to share that whole story.
Meet the drama. Meet Jerry.
To help readers understand the complete benefits of these solutions through the enterprise-grade lens, we created characters and use cases for each audience: land mobility, commercial maritime, business aviation, and enterprise operations. Jerry is a paramedic saving a lone camper at a remote site in the Appalachian mountains. Benjamin is a ship captain moving cargo across the Pacific. Jane is a mining CEO working on a digitalization strategy in flight. Sarah is an oil and gas CIO finding new ways to simplify her company’s ops.
These vignettes take readers on a journey through overcoming a challenge, answering their burning questions, and finding a solution with the help of Intelsat. What made this ebook different was the way we decided to guide users through the total enterprise-grade advantage.
The interactive story.
The audiences for this single asset were so categorically different, we didn’t want to waste anyone’s time reading about what wasn’t relevant to them. This is where Goosebumps came in. What better way to guide people through the vignettes than a “choose your own adventure” format?
Maximizing the capabilities of the PDF of today, interactive buttons in the document move readers through their chosen storyline. Our “Choose Your Journey” page, which also acts like a table of contents, starts them off. As they progress through the pages, buttons with specific CTAs guide them to read more, and link them to the next part of their chosen character’s journey. To add even more clarity to design, we implemented a variety of “wayfinder” elements, and carrot-esc navigation. This allows readers to navigate forward and backwards at any point of the document. Color-coding was used to differentiate the journeys from one another, and also reinforce every section as an indicator of the reader’s position in the document.
Done and done.
It took nailing down the details of every character, ironing out kinks in their storylines, and troubleshooting navigation, but with the help of our attentive and thorough clients, we made it to the end. It was an adventure with an outcome everyone is proud of.
