Risk Report

“Oh… that’s Schrödinger’s equation. We’re just reading up on how electrons orbit around the nucleus of an atom.”
Sales Enablement

Time to remember trigonometry.

We got into some weird territory on this one for sure. Visualizing concepts usually doesn’t take a lot of math, but it did here. To showcase the different security threat assessments that the Verizon RIsk Report (or VRR) could bring to the table, we decided to think about the world of the incredibly small. On the scale of atoms small.

Schrödinger’s equation, Hψ=Eψ, can be solved to yield a series of wave functions ψ, each of which is associated with an electron-binding energy E.

Ditching the slides.

Verizon was bringing something new to the table for security professionals. It was something that needed to be brought to life in a way that matched the grandeur of the service—so sending sales teams into the field with a clunky and static presentation just wouldn’t do.

Combining technologies like WebGL library three.js and a self-contained web application, we took the story of how VRR was a game changer and combined it with 3D models of atoms, DNA strands, and pollen balls to create an abstracted interactive experience. Either guided by a sales rep or self-directed, a prospect can dive into any area and explore the offer in an engaging way—very different from the standard sales deck.

A presentation for the future. Built to work in the now.

One of the goals was to have a downloadable package that any sales person could take with them on the road and be assured it would run without an internet connection. This was somewhat challenging, as sandbox rules make external assets impossible to load without a local server. We solved for this by baking our 3D geometry into the code.

Another big issue was making sure the experience could run smoothly on old hardware. Most sales teams aren't equipped with Bleeding Edge laptops, so it was crucial to host an experience that worked for low CPU/GPU usage and on outdated browsers like Internet Explorer.

With a little elbow grease and strategic thinking, it was all possible.
