The Briefcase
“It’s just like Pulp Fiction—except inside the briefcase is a multi-cpu server instead of Marsellus Wallace’s soul.”
Light popcorn.
VMWare often holds exclusive events for customers and prospects, offering them the opportunity to see a blockbuster movie a few days in advance in exchange for listening to a brief sales pitch. In the summer of 2016, the final installment of the Bourne Identity series was to be released, simply titled Jason Bourne. While VMWare had planned the event, they needed a bridge piece—some light popcorn—to connect their sales pitch for the VxRail appliance with the final Jason Bourne movie.
The promotional film identity, born.
We couldn’t make an obvious parody, so we came up with a short film that captured the spirit of a summer blockbuster thriller, and got to work on a script. Our requirements: Brand tone, the VxRail appliance, and a subtle nod to its features and values.
The Briefcase Short Film
What’s in the briefcase?
Thus, it was born (Bourne, if you will). “The Briefcase”—a short film where a hero with a mysterious briefcase is confronted by thugs, runs for his life, and is swayed to reveal its contents. What’s inside? Only the most powerful advancement in technology to date.
VMWare’s VxRail appliance.
